Spotlight on: Slope Safety!

Join us for our annual NSAA Safety Week celebration, happening January 16th through 22nd, 2010. Enjoy helmet discounts in our retail stores (20% off all Bern helmets) and giveaways, patrol demonstrations, important safety messages regarding how to stay safe on the slopes (Stay in Control and Use Consideration) and activities aplenty.

All Base Areas: 20% discount in retail shops on all Bern helmets for the week of January 16th through the 22nd. All rental shops will be lowering the rental cost of helmets to ten dollars for the week. Stickers and buttons with slope and helmet safety messages will be distributed to guests, and increased signage depicting the helmet and slope safety messages will be displayed.

Alpental

  • Avalanche dog demonstrations in the base area.
  • Free mountain safety training, including proper use of avalanche beacon, probe and shovel, in the Transceiver Park across from the main parking lot. This training begins at 9am and is limited to the first 8-10 participants.
  • Mountain Safety lecture by Alpental Pro Patrol on Saturday at 9am, 11am and 1pm in the loft of the Alpental Lodge.
  • Avalanche education information session provided by the David Pettigrew Foundation on Saturday in the base area.

Summit West

  • Avalanche dog demonstrations in the base area.
  • Safety carnival booth, hosted by Summit West Ski Patrol, featuring fun safety activities and games.
  • Ski Patrol snowmobile and sled displays showing safety equipment and first aid supplies with question and answer sessions.
  • Chairlift model available for practicing safe loading and unloading procedures with tips and suggestions.
  • Search and Rescue (SPART) members on site answering questions and showing a snow safety video.

Summit Central

  • On-hill safety tips from Summit Learning Center instructors
  • Groomer display in main crosswalk

Also, be sure to keep an eye out for Ramsey, our safety mascot, who will be making the rounds at each base area and rewarding safe behaviors!
